What are the kinds of orthodontic appliances?
The treatment consists of several appliances and techniques that are opted for each case. Each appliance has indications as well as considerations that are being derived after a careful diagnosis and treatment planning.
Removable braces are in common use for simple orthodontic problems. There are several important steps to looking after these appliances. They can be taken out by the patient.
Fixed appliances (braces) remain the most popular type of orthodontic appliance. They now come in a wide range of types including metal, ceramic (tooth-coloured) and those fitted behind the teeth (lingual braces)
Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) or miniscrews are used for more challenging and complex orthodontic cases. These miniscrews are often used to provide good anchorage or support for movement of the tooth or teeth.
